Bridge out ahead!

bradjmeyer

One rainy evening, a man is driving back home from work. Along the way, something large is in the road. He can’t see what it is, but he is able to drive around it. A few moments later, he and the car fall several feet after driving off a collapsed bridge. The obstacle he passed was a sign that read, “bridge out ahead.”

It may be cliché, but the story of the “bridge out” is a helpful story. The story illustrates how busy we are and how little we look for guidance in our lives.

The route was familiar. He had been this way many times before. But he didn’t know the bridge was out.

We don’t always know what lies ahead - even on familiar routes. Things change. People change. And we cannot predict the future.

If the man had stopped to read the sign, he could have avoided disaster. We too can avoid disaster if we will stop and get some guidance for our journey.

Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail without guidance.”

Proverbs 11:14 says, “Without guidance a people fall.”

Consider your own life. How often do you just go on about your business like everything is going to be ok? Do you stop to seek for guidance?

The best place to get guidance is from the one who can see ahead. God already knows what will happen if you go down this path or that one.

In all our plans, we should first seek guidance from God in prayer and in his word.
